Starburns Industries is an innovative and imaginative full-service production company, specializing in stop-motion, traditional 2D, and CG animation. In addition to live-action projects, such as the highly anticipated live-action/animation series HarmonQuest for SeeSo, and the comedy series Great Minds with Dan Harmon for the History Channel, the studio creates groundbreaking animation for film, television, advertising, gaming and new media distribution.
The company was launched in the summer of 2010 under the partnership of Dan Harmon (NBC’s “Community,” Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty”), Dino Stamatopoulos (Adult Swim’s “Moral Orel,” “Mary Shelley’s Frankenhole” “Mr Show”), Joe Russo II (“The Simpsons,” “Rugrats”), and James A. Fino (“King of the Hill”).
Spanning two buildings in Burbank and over thirty thousand square feet of production space, facilities include a dedicated puppet fabrication shop, massive set construction space, 3D printing and prototyping, state-of-the-art voiceover recording and ADR studio, motion control, editorial, VFX and complete post-production and delivery services.
The critically acclaimed “Community” holiday special, produced at Starburns, won an Emmy Award© for Outstanding Achievement in Character Animation. Additional notable projects include season two of “Mary Shelley’s Frankenhole” and “Beforel Orel”, both on Adult Swim, and the production of the 2-D animated sitcom “Rick and Morty,” created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland.
Starburns Industries first feature film “Anomalisa” written by Duke Johnson and Charlie Kaufman, won the Venice Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize, secured distribution through Paramount Pictures, and went on to receive numerous accolades including a 2015 Oscar nomination.
