MITCH HURWITZ AND DAN HARMON ARE WORKING TOGETHER TO MAKE TV NERDS’ DREAMS COME TRUE

Anyone who stuck around for the ending credits during the March 6 episode of Community saw a parody trailer for a movie starring Koogler, Greendale’s newly discovered, popular party animal. And if you looked closely, under the beer-drinking hat and sunglasses, you might have recognized that Koogler was played by Mitch Hurwitz, the creator of Arrested Development. Apparently, Hurwitz bonded with Community’s own creator because Hurwitz and Dan Harmon are working on a project together. There are no real details available, but whatever it is, should be a TV nerd’s dream.
Harmon revealed the ultimate collaboration in an interview with Rolling Stone and only had very vague things to say about what they’re actually working on:
Okay, it would embrace the emerging mediascape, and use us both in a way that we weren’t compromising each other, but are still collaborating, and giving the audience a lot to digest. That’s all I’ll say.
So maybe a webseries? Or podcast? Or movie or TV show with a heavy social media element? Honestly, it could be a collection of selfies but with the minds behind two of the most brilliant comedies of all time behind it, people will be on board. Hurwitz and Harmon each created shows that though never highly rated (and in Hurtwitz’s case, cancelled too soon), consistently received praise from critics and audiences alike.
Both creators have proven they are masters of satire, parody, pop culture references and plotting, so expectations are high for whatever this project turns out to be. Maybe with the combined fandoms of Community and Arrested Development, Hurwitz and Harmon could actually have a real, network-approved hit.Read More
